Reporting to the Chief Executive Offer, the Controller is a full-time position responsible to oversee iON’s financial activity. The Controller will work to ensure long term profitable growth of the business while building new customer, community, and supplier relationships. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, the ideal candidate will streamline processes and produce thorough financial-status reports for Executive Leadership to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth. The successful candidate for this role will be excited to learn every aspect of the business and will bring their own ideas for growth and evolution to iON.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day activities to ensure efficiency and accuracy on finance operations, including but not limited to proper revenue and cost recognition, sales tax collection & remittance, timely billing and cash collections, and timely vendor payments
  • Work as a hands-on user of QuickBooks and Salesforce and drive data, reporting and efficiencies using this system
  • Manage the month end reporting calendar and close process
  • Develop, implement and maintain processes, procedures and systems that improve financial operations
  • Work as a dependable business partner to the ELT; provide financial perspective/insights on cross-function discussions and initiatives, organize necessary training on key operational finance concepts and metrics.
  • Oversee subledger reconciliations and follow-ups
  • Maintain and establish documentation of monthly procedures and practises for QuickBooks set up for A/P, A/R and Inventory, Chart of Accounts master file maintenance
  • Manage monthly operational results closing, including identifying and recording cost/revenue accruals and provisions, project and operational KPIs validation and variance analysis
  • Develop reporting for monthly and quarterly reporting to iON ELT and to Sequent
  • Support year end audit process
  • Support annual budget process
  • Train direct reports on key policies, processes, concepts, and empower team members on finding innovative solutions on challenges
  • Evaluate performance on direct reports, grow and develop staff through coaching and timely and constructive feedback

Professional Qualifications and Expertise

  • CPA designation
  • Minimum of 10 years of full-cycle accounting with supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls, including IFRS
  • Extensive experience in forecasting, budgeting, consolidation, variance analysis, financial and capital planning, costing, financial and operational reporting and project valuation
  • Experiences developing accounting policies and procedures
  • Experience in tax filing coordination (Canada and USA)
